Résumé
If this book is an attempt to reveal Lausanne Cathedral to people who have always known it, such as C.F. Ramuz, who wrote, “To this day, I have never been able to decide if I find it beautiful or not, so much it is part of myself…”, it is also a guide for visitors to this country.
The author wishes to draw attention to some remarkable aspects of the cathedral’s architecture, its sculptures, its stained-glass windows and its painted décor.
Finally, this guide pays tribute to the builders, “European geniuses”, impregnated with the traditions and inventions of Ile-de-France, England and Savoy. The same may be said of the innumerable artisans who created stone sculptures, wooden stalls and stained-glass windows. Through their gift of synthesis, their deep sense of harmony, and their practical know-how, they transformed a church of relatively modest dimensions into a great and beautiful cathedral.
